Baptism

08 Nov Baptism

We walked to St Peter in Chains church for the baptism of our baby doll, Mary. We were all very excited and each had an important part to play. Father Sean spoke to us about how we welcome our baby Mary in to God’s family. He showed us the bible and said that a prayer is read from it in a Baptism. Father Sean called Mary’s mummy and daddy, who were Alex and Charlie up to the alter to start the Baptism. He also invited Mary’s godparents and grandparents to stand with them. First he made the sign of the cross on baby Mary’s forehead with a precious oil, as a sign of protection. Then, he used a special shell to pour holy water from the font on to baby Mary’s head. This was to make her pure. Father Sean lit a special baptism candle for baby Mary, so that God will be the light in her life. Abigail and Nolan, who were the godparents got to hold the candle. Abigail helped Father Sean wrap baby Mary in a white shawl, to show us that she would be wrapped in God’s love. We then all said a prayer for Mary. When we got back to school, we made Baptismal candles with crayons and tissue paper to remember the special day.
